ABOUT CRANBARRIER

Over 30 years ago, Patrick Moore stumbled upon his first cranberry harvest while between business appointments. Watching workers wrestle with heavy wooden booms to corral floating cranberries, load trucks, and then haul the cumbersome booms from bog to bog, he was struck by how inefficient and exhausting the process was. When he asked why it was done that way, the answer was simple: We’ve always done it this way. But let us know if you come up with something better.

Moore wasn’t a cranberry grower—he came from the environmental containment industry, where oil booms are used to control hazardous waste and pollution slicks. But he immediately recognized the opportunity. Traditional oil booms weren’t suited for cranberry harvest: vinyl-coated fabrics tore easily on rough bog edges, became waterlogged, and could weigh hundreds of pounds.

Driven by curiosity and challenge, Moore engineered a lightweight, geotextile-based alternative designed specifically for cranberry growers. After testing prototypes with real farmers, incorporating their feedback, and refining the design to float upright while letting water pass through, Cranbarrier™ was born in 1997.

That first season, he sold two miles of Cranbarrier. By 1998, growers ordered over 35,000 feet. And today—more than one million feet of Cranbarrier™ are in use across North America, South America, Europe, and the Pacific Rim.

Now the global standard for cranberry wet harvest equipment, Cranbarrier™ has replaced wooden and oil boom systems on farms big and small. Its lightweight, reelable design saves growers significant time, energy, and labor while delivering a cleaner, faster harvest. From the world’s largest cranberry operations to the smallest family farms, growers everywhere trust Cranbarrier™ for one reason: it works better.
